Here’s the brick ranch house that was built in 1958 by W.T. Dahl, it’s a beautiful inspiration of Mid-century home interior. Each room of this house has a different taste, but all of them are fabulous and offers lots of great ideas for colors combination, lighting placement, materials and furniture arrangement. Look out the inspirational pictures after the jump.
A house is the abode of the human kind. A house is a place where people unwind after a hard day of work, relax and are just themselves. In a house there is no stretch and deadlines to be met.
Scientifically one can break interior design down into a few design principles. But be aware because these are not rules, rather see the principles as fundamental underpinnings for a feeling, flair or intuition to interior design.
Principle 1 : UNITY
When doing interior design it is necessary to think of the house as a totality; a series of spaces linked together by halls and stairways. It is therefore appropriate that a common style and theme runs throughout. This is not to say that all interior design elements should be the same but they should work together and complement each other to strengthen the whole composition. A way to create this theme or storyline is with the well considered use of color. (more…)
These airy staircase designs will add a feeling of spaciousness and modernity anywhere they are installed. Naturally slim and compact, this modern staircase appears minimal in a winning combination of stainless steel and tempered laminated crystal glass.
Letting light filter through the glass stairs (available in a rainbow of enticing colors) is a sure-fire way to open up the atmosphere of any room. The Swing and Kristall staircase designs can incorporate linear railings with parallel rods for an interesting and safety-conscious element… or, for a more pared-down feel these railings can be made of fewer rods, or eliminated entirely.
Wall-side fixings can be particularly dramatic. And, you may like to consider a spiral staircase for steeper climbs – a stunning and space-saving solution. Modern Staircases from Cast are a wonderful addition to your home.
Alchemy Glass & Light Launches the new Full Moon Mirror Collection of Internally Illuminated Art Mirrors. Based in downtown Los Angeles and greatly admired on Trendir for their beautiful art glass vessel sinks, glass countertops, lighting and other art creations, Alchemy has introduced a new collection of unique and stunning statement mirrors which cast a patterned glow on surrounding surfaces.
Entirely one-of-a-kind, these artistic creations are the work of Company Owner and Artist Steve Weinstock. Large, sculptural and self-illuminated, the mirrors are created by placing precious minerals and metals within fused glass, which allows a vibrant and natural color palette to evolve.
Many of the mirrors feature fragmented glass patterns in a variety of heavenly hues. When lit, the mirrors are reminiscent of the halo effect: which is when the sun’s corona explodes, and forms a halo around the moon during a solar eclipse. As a striking, textured piece of art, the Full Moon Mirrors make a dramatic statement when placed in a vestibule, master bedroom or as the focal point of the great room.
A multiplex architecture by Architecture W located in Nagoya, Japan, M House is a 3-level, multi family residence for a single family including children and grandparents. The architecture team achieved some sustainable goals, like they minimized solar exposure by building high efficiency radiant floors and by making use of the natural breezes.
The building actually consists of a 139.35 sq m apartment and a 176.51 sq m house. Facing challenges provided by the location and site the architecture team has marveled at making the perfect construction. The house has secured sunlight, views and breezes very efficiently even though it was a very challenging task in the context of a cramped traditional Japanese neighborhood. The property being present at the edge of a cliff was another daunting task faced by the architects, but this type of a location was also the reason for inspiring the concept that was put in. The deceptively simple design utilizes a hybrid structure of reinforced bearing walls for the lower floors and steel truss structure for the top level. This strategy allows for the north and south elevations to be composes entirely of sliding glass walls that capture views and sunlight and allows for natural ventilation for most of the year. The lowest level has an independent apartment with its own garden and access.
The entry level has an upper deck and lower deck. The upper deck provides for a covered space that does double duty as a parking space and children’s play area. Along with this there is a small pool which enhances the beauty of the entry area. The pool has been flanked with a master bath and beautiful landscapes which gives the cultural presence of the hyper dense Japanese environment.
The top most level has been left as a wide open space to form the house’s main living area.
The projects simple architecture – galvanized metal siding, exposed concrete walls and floors, plasterboard infill walls and white laminate cabinetry - provide a neutrality view.
Designed in 1899 by Jacques Gros, the famed health spa/hotel has a perfect city location overlooking Lake Zürich and the Alps. The grand old hotel has been re-imagined as a modern luxury hotel by a star team of professionals — architecture by London’s Foster and Partners, interior design by United Designers, also of London, and the spa concept by spa-industry visionary, Arizona-based Sylvia Sepielli
The star power continues in the four top-level suites inspired by four famed guests. The topmost, 4,300 square-foot (400 square-meter) Maestro Suite channels the style of Herbert von Karajan. The sweeping two-level suite with dashing classical undertones features red leather chairs, dark timbers, a circular tower dining room, pale-marble bathrooms with whirlpools and steam showers (and one with a sauna), massive windows and a lounge-style terrace
The late Swiss surrealist painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti inspired the Carezza Suite on the top floor of the spa wing. Sculpturally inspired furnishings and organic shapes create a peaceful lounge feel, enhanced by the neutral colors and the modern fireplace. The two-bedroom suite has a separate living room, TV lounge and marble bathrooms
London’s Soho saw a highly innovative Asian bar and restaurant scheme which has virtual menus which can be navigated via table-tops. Each and every of the 60 tables have its own projector while there is 80 plus capacity bar downstairs which offers a vibrant cocktail environment.
Blacksheep’s designs seek to balance out the restaurant’s technological aspects by creating a sensuous, social space with a strong personality.
Blacksheep also contributed to all the restaurant’s graphic applications, adapting the existing identity with new iconography for signage, menus and marketing materials as well as all environmental graphics, from graphic wallpaper to graphic tablecloths, shopfront etched patterns and illuminated screens, with all pattern work inspired by and adapted from traditional Asian print designs
Have you come across home designs which when you see makes you wonder how can these fit the category of building techniques? Does it sometimes make you wonder how such structures were allowed to be built in the first place? Do you feel like questioning its stability and life time?
When it comes to building homes it is not easy to create something unique thinking outside the box. When I saw these unique houses from Antonino Cardillo first it made me believe that they are built against the building techniques permitted, but slowly I came to understand and accept the creativity.
As you look at the pictures you can see the incredible views of the home interior created by the sloped ceilings and the general curvature of the architecture.
